Level of Training
Novice Operators
Those who have had very little or no previous experience of operating a piece of equipment and have not received any type of formal training would normally require a full novice course, the time can vary depending on the type of equipment.
Unqualified Operators
This course is designed for those who have extensive practical experience, but hold no formal certification of any kind. The operators ability will be assessed prior to beginning the course and the course time will be reduced compared to a full novice training course.
Refresher
It is recommended that operators received refresher training every 3-5 years this can often be sooner (see NPORS CSCS operator cards). This course offers a short refresh course for those who hold formal certification that is coming up for expiry, it is also often used following accident or incident as support evidence of competence. This course is for those operators who hold experience and previous formal training.
Test only
The NPORS test only option is available for those who feel their experience is enough and provides no level of training and as the name suggests is purely test only. This option is for those who hold extensive previous experience and formal certification.
